My mom loves red velvet cake so I have been meaning to give this recipe a try for quite some time. Original recipe here. These treats are easy and delicious, just like Amy ;)
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 3 cups mini marshmallows (about 1/2 10oz bag)
- 1/3 cup red velvet cake mix (just the powder)
- 4 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 cup milk chocolate baking chips
- 1 tub cream cheese frosting*
*I made the frosting myself based on the recipe from the red velvet cake balls but you can buy it too.
1.) In a large pot over medium-low heat, melt the butter.
2.) Add the marshmallows and cake mix, stirring frequently until the marshmallows have melted.
3.) Remove from heat and stir in cereal, then chocolate chips.
4.) Press into a greased jelly roll pan and allow to cool in the refrigerator for 20 minutes while you make and/or prepare your frosting.
5.) If you’re making the frosting yourself, do that then put it in a piping bag with a fine tip.
6.) When the treats are cooled, pipe the frosting on in whatever pattern you like (Amy is much better at this than I am). I chose kind of a zig-zaggy criss-cross pattern.
7.) Cut each treat and enjoy!
